This course is aimed at upskilling working professionals with details on how to apply advanced PLC program techniques, including peripheral interfaces like VFD control through communication with PLC, to meet industry expectations. Eligibility

  • Working professionals from Maintenance / Plant Engg. / Utilities with a minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of electrical & electronics circuits

DAY 1
  • Basic digital concepts
  • PLC hardware blocks and functions
  • I/O module types, wiring techniques
  • Selection criteria for PLC
  • Basic PLC programming techniques in ladder logic
  • Bit logic instructions and simple programming examples
DAY 2
  • Programming using latching, memory interlocks
  • PLC interfacing with I/O field devices – AC motor control circuits with relays & contactors
  • Pneumatic & hydraulic application control through programming case studies
DAY 3
  • Programming using timers, counters, comparators & arithmetic instructions
  • Case studies for applying timing, counting & other data manipulation instructions
  • Program sequence control instructions – MCR, Jump, Call & Subroutine instructions
DAY 4
  • Understanding the concept of analog signals
  • A2D converters & D2A converters concepts
  • Selection & configurations of analog I/O channels
  • Scaling, unscaling & PID blocks
  • Programming case studies with analog input to digital output control, digital input to analog output control, analog input to analog output control
DAY 5
  • Motors – Types & introduction
  • Review of 3-phase induction motor control circuits
  • VFD – Internal blocks, operation, and applications
  • V/F control and vector control basics
  • VFD – Parameterization concepts, types of parameters, and their importance
  • Steps to interface VFD with PLC
DAY 6
  • VFD parameterization & control through digital signals using PLC programming
  • VFD parameterization & control through analog signals using PLC programming
  • Industrial case studies for VFD control & PLC programming

Outcomes

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:
  • Analyze PLC input and output wiring and perform simple troubleshooting
  • Write PLC programs for a given application
  • Troubleshoot existing PLC programs
  • Configure VFD through parameters by referring to user manuals
  • Control VFD operations through PLC programming
